What to bring

  • A full-face helmet. Between a road and an off-road helmet, go off-road — there probably won't be any highways
  • A headset (Bluetooth comms), charger and cover — if you have one
  • A summer riding jacket, or a winter one with a removable liner
  • Stiff off-road boots — not low riding shoes or soft boots. In a fall, the legs get hit first
  • Knee guards or knee braces — recommended
  • Winter gloves and summer gloves
  • A neck tube and earplugs
  • A rain suit — a must
  • A phone mount and tank bag — not included, bring yours if you use them
  • A motorcycle licence + International Driving Permit

A recommendation, not a must. Most riders bring their own gear from home — that way you don't find out mid-trip that the helmet pinches or the knee guards are worn out. If you need something, we'll try to find a solution. Upper-body armour (elbows, pressure suit, roost guard) is up to you: this is adventure riding, no sand, no mud, a calm pace. Everyone weighs comfort against protection by their level, the terrain, the pace, and the bike's height and weight.

What I provide

  • A maintained bike on fresh off-road tyres
  • A support vehicle that moves your bag from hotel to hotel
  • Fuel and airport pick-up — depends on the trip, just ask me
  • A spare bike in the support vehicle

10Fit / not fit

This isn't for everyone — and that's fine.

This is for you if

  • You hold a motorcycle licence and have about a year of riding on the road
  • You've done about 10 off-road rides — not just easy dirt tracks
  • You'll get up at 06:30 for the morning light on the ridge

This isn't for you if

  • You've never taken a motorcycle off-road
  • You want to ride fast — we ride far
  • You're after a pool-and-sunbed holiday — here we ride around 180 km a day, half of it off-road
  • You can't take a "no" — sometimes I stop the group because of the weather

12The guide · Gilad (Gili Spin)

I'm not a tour company. I'm the person who drew the route.

  1. CH. I

    IHow it started

Riding started as a hobby, but I ran out of roads in Israel very quickly and started riding off-road. When the dirt started repeating itself too, I began leading groups in Northern Greece — and lately in Albania as well. Why Spin? At the gym I had until recently, I did a lot of spinning.

  2. CH. II

    IIThe map

I drew these routes in pen on a paper map. Every dirt road was checked twice — once alone, once with the truck.

  3. CH. III

    IIIThe people

I know the taverna owner in a village of 40 people. They know me too. That's the difference between a tour and a visit.

  4. CH. IV

    IVWhy alone

No office, no agents. One truck, 12 seats and my phone. When you call — I answer.

13Hard questions

The questions you actually want to ask.

The trips aren't for anyone who has never taken a motorcycle off-road. You need a motorcycle licence, about a year on the road, and about 10 off-road rides that were more than easy dirt tracks. There are trips for beginners, more demanding trips and trips for hard riders — each trip's level is on its page.
